For more than a decade, Play Roanoke’s Wednesday Night DISCO Mountain Bike Race Series has been a highlight for the local mountain bike community. In 2010, the series was awarded “Best New Program” by the Virginia Recreation and Park Society at the organization’s annual conference. Though it’s changed over the years, the DISCO has been enjoyed by mountain bikers and spectators alike, and while 2023 will mark the “Last Boogie,” organizers want to make it clear that there will be plenty of groovy things on the way!
The after-work series, held Wednesday evenings in May, offers an opportunity for beginner and expert mountain bikers to come together, riding one of Roanoke’s finest trail systems. The course begins at the base of Mill Mountain and ends at the Discovery Center (hence that DISCO name). Finish line fun has varied over the years, but often includes food trucks, beer, music, and an awards presentation. Costumes in the DISCO theme are always encouraged, proving that this race series is only as serious as you want it to be.

There are lots of ways to join us for the Wednesday Night DISCO series, whether you’re a rider or not. There will be three races held, May 3, May 10, and May 17. Riders can register for races individually ($15), or sign up for the whole series at a discounted rate ($40). Multiple categories are available from novice to elite riders, with junior groups available as well. The races would not be possible without the help of our amazing volunteers!
