What parks and facilities are available for wedding rentals?

Not sure where to plan your wedding? The City of Roanoke has a wide selection of outdoor spaces as well as indoor facilities available for private events such as weddings. The number of guests, whether you plan to serve alcohol, and other factors will determine which space is best for your event. Below are some of the more popular locations for weddings in our park spaces. To begin the planning process, please complete our Wedding Request Form, below.


Fishburn Mansion Wedding

Historic Fishburn Mansion & Mountain View Park

One of the most popular wedding venues in our park system, The Historic Fishburn Mansion is a 42-room Georgian-revival mansion that was built in 1907 by Junius B. Fishburn and is used today as a public recreation center. In addition to the historic home, the Mountain View Park property includes a decorative garden, beautiful lawn and grounds, and an old carriage barn that has been converted into a greenhouse. Mill Mountain Park and Discovery Center

Mill Mountain Park is one of the region’s most distinguished parks. Home to the famous Roanoke Star, Discovery Center, and Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden, this park is a popular location for weddings and elopements. The Discovery Center is commonly used for environmental education programs, and also provides a wonderful indoor space for private event rental. More info.

Please Note: The Roanoke Star and Overlook are NOT available for rental or private use. However, you can reserve the lower, Rockledge Overlook near the Discovery Center.

How do I reserve a park or facility for my wedding?

Complete the the Wedding Request Form below and our staff will assist you with your reservation. 

Am I allowed to have alcohol?

Alcohol Permits:

A City of Roanoke Alcohol Permit and Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control permits and licenses are required for alcohol to be allowed in designated parks, plazas, and recreation centers. Additionally, alcohol permits will only be considered for the following locations:

  • Century Plaza
  • Elmwood Park
  • Fallon Park (not including pool or Fallon Park Elementary School)
  • Highland Park (not including dog park)
  • John Nolen Plaza
  • Market Square Plaza
  • Mill Mountain Park and Discovery Center
  • Mountain View Park and Historic Fishburn Mansion
  • Preston Park and Preston Recreation Center
  • River’s Edge Park
  • Smith Park
  • Vic Thomas Park
  • Wasena Park
