GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown to a global movement, inspiring individuals to give and celebrate generosity. This #GivingTuesday, we encourage you to support two local non-profit organizations that directly support the work of Roanoke Parks and Recreation.
FRIENDS OF MOUNTAIN VIEW
The Friends of Mountain View is a non-profit organization formed to promote awareness and advocacy for the 1907 Fishburn Mansion / Mountain View. The organization works in partnership with the City of Roanoke and the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide leadership and direction in the restoration and preservation of this historic landmark property. In the past year, Friends of Mountain View successfully applied for and received two planning grants to support their work (stay tuned for more details very soon).

ROANOKE PARKS FOUNDATION
The Roanoke Parks Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to support the City of Roanoke’s Parks and Recreation Department by raising funds, accepting gifts and providing other resources to enhance existing programs, services, facilities and technology. We do this by working with donors, volunteers, and leaders in our community who want to help us improve the quality of life for all Roanoke residents and visitors. This past year, the Roanoke Parks Foundation raised sufficient matching funds for Roanoke Parks and Recreation to purchase a portable climbing tower, more info here.
