Roanoke, VA – Two fields in River’s Edge Sports Complex South are currently undergoing major turf upgrades. As a result, fields #1 and #2, located at 302 Wiley Drive SW, are closed to the public for all uses, while fields #3 and #4 will remain open. The closure will be in effect as of today, May 22, through Labor Day. The new turf fields will be composed of Bermuda Latitude 36 Sports Turf, which is a more durable and vibrant species of sports turf for the agricultural transition zone in which Roanoke resides.
“Our goal is to provide the public with top-shelf athletic resources in Roanoke,” said Donnie Underwood, Parks and Greenway Planner, Roanoke Parks and Recreation. “The new turf should be easier to maintain, live longer, tolerate heat better, and also provide better playability than the grass that we have currently.”
