Roanoke Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) accreditation process for the fourth time since 2008. NPRA’s Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) is the national accrediting body for parks and recreation agencies, and its accreditation process is recognized as the gold standard for excellence in the field.
“We are very proud to have earned CAPRA accreditation once again,” said Michael Clark, Director of Roanoke Parks and Recreation. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, who are committed to providing our community with the best possible parks and recreation services.”
To achieve CAPRA accreditation, agencies must meet a rigorous set of standards in areas such as governance, planning, programming, and operations. Roanoke Parks and Recreation was evaluated by a team of CAPRA-accredited professionals, who found that the department met or exceeded all 154 standards. Roanoke Parks and Recreation will be awarded during the 2023 NRPA Annual Conference to be held in Dallas, Texas in October 2023.
