Roanoke Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce Cindy McFall as its new Parks Manager. McFall has been in the parks and recreation field for 24 years, and 16 of those have been with the department. Along with her creativity and positive mindset, she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience.
A graduate of Salisbury University, McFall began her parks and recreation career in Abingdon, Virginia, as the Fitness, Youth Special Event Coordinator, supervising all of the fitness programs and instructors as well as the youth programs and community events. In 2005, she joined Roanoke Parks and Recreation and has held positions as the Fitness and Aquatic Program Supervisor, Athletics Coordinator, and Community Recreation Coordinator. She has overseen the City’s fitness centers and pool facilities, all adult and youth athletics programming and events, as well as programming and events for the arts, fitness, wellness, and trips and tours. She has over seen programming staff, class instructors, and a field maintenance crew. If you’ve played on a City athletic field, attended a function at the Fishburn Mansion, or participated in any of our day trips in the past 16 years, it’s likely that McFall had a hand in it.
She will be filling Dan Henry’s shoes following his retirement this past December. He was with the department for 30 years. “Dan was a great mentor to the parks division, and I feel like I can follow in his footsteps,” McFall said. “One of the things that really drew me to this position is that our parks system is one of the city’s greatest amenities, and we have amazing professionals in the parks division. There are so many new things happening, and this is such an area of growth and potential; I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Please join us in welcoming Cindy McFall in her new role and wishing her the best of luck!
