Roanoke, VA – As part of the city’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan process, the Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with Roanoke Skatepark Initiative (RSI) to conduct a feasibility study for a skate/BMX facility. As part of the process, citizens are encouraged to provide feedback about this potential facility at an open house event on Thursday, March 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Berglund Center.
The purpose of this process is to determine the feasibility of a potential project. By gathering citizen input, all involved parties will be equipped with the proper knowledge to build the best possible facility.
Representatives from RSI, Parks and Recreation, and a landscape architecture firm will be on hand to answer any questions and to listen to feedback about items such as park location and size. There is no formal presentation, so citizens can drop in at any point during the scheduled timeframe.
“A vital part of planning this project is obtaining quality feedback from both the skateboard and BMX communities,” said Donnie Underwood, Park Planner for the Parks and Recreation Department. “We’re hoping many people attend this open house so we can begin to craft a design that will be fun, safe, and sustainable.”
Citizens are encouraged to help RSI and the city formulate its plan by providing valuable input at this open house. If you cannot attend, you can still submit your feedback in one of three ways:
