When you think of internships, you probably think of taking coffee orders, running errands, and doing the general “busy work” that no one else wants to do. Don’t get us wrong–we love us some coffee, but that’s not at all what we’re looking for in our interns. We’re interested in people who want to get involved in planning special events and making positive changes to our Outdoor Adventure program. And the icing on the cake? We’ll pay you!
The City of Roanoke is offering eight-week, paid internships this summer to a select few folks. Candidates are selected on their area of interest, skill set, and qualifications and will be matched with a city department based on that department’s project needs. PLAY Roanoke is looking for two interns–one to help develop, plan, and execute a special event and one to help plan, implement, and evaluate all aspects of the Outdoor Adventure program.
Interested? Here are the details:
- Internships are available to students in final semester or equivalent of an associate’s degree program with plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree; recent associate’s degree graduates with plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree; rising juniors and seniors in bachelor degree programs; rising bachelor degree graduates; and graduate degree students.
- When applying, candidates must mark on the application (in the questions section) that they would like to intern with Parks and Recreation. You can get more detailed if you’d like (specifically calling out your interest in the outdoors or special events), but make sure you list Parks and Recreation.
- Applications are due by February 28, 2020.
- Once all paid positions are filled, there is still an opportunity to intern with us! If you’re interested in that, please email playroanoke@roanokeva.gov for more information.
