Have you ever found yourself frustrated by an unexpected greenway closure? Whether for regular maintenance, flooding, or big construction projects, closures are a regular part of managing the extensive trail and greenway system in the City of Roanoke.
The good news is, there’s a new way to “Know Before You Go”. Roanoke Parks and Recreation is excited to introduce Statusfy, an informational alert system meant to keep users informed. Statusfy allows trail and greenway users to view active and ongoing alerts (including shortterm maintenance closures, long-term construction closures, flooding, detours, or event alerts).
There are three easy ways to use Statusfy:
- Use the free app: Download the Statusfy app and search “Roanoke Parks and Recreation” to view our trails and greenways, and see whether there are any active alerts.
- Use a browser: Visit PlayRoanoke.Statusfy.com to view the information on your phone or computer.
- Call the phone hotline: Dial 540-858-1409 to listen to alert details.
Users also have the option of signing up for email and/or text alerts to notify them of any updates.
“Our trail and greenway network has been growing steadily for years, and we recently exceeded 100 miles within the city,” says Molly Hagan, Marketing Coordinator with Roanoke Parks and Recreation. “Part of managing such an extensive network is dealing with closures, which are a big frustration for users. With Statusfy, we hope to better inform the public about these closures and help them plan accordingly.”
While this new alert system will be useful for information about planned closures, users are cautioned that this is NOT an emergency alert system. Statusfy is not a system for trail condition reporting, up-to-the-minute hazard information, or other emergency response functions. If you encounter an emergency situation in our parks or greenways, call 911.
