Sunshine is peeking through the clouds, the days are getting longer, and it’s the perfect time to trade screen time for green time! Roanoke Parks and Rec is here to help you make the most of it. We’ve got a whole bunch of awesome programs designed to get you and your crew outside, soaking up the fresh air, and having some unforgettable fun.
Need a plan? Check out these upcoming programs:
1. Bug and Bat Nights: April 26 & May 24
Calling all curious explorers! Join us at Mill Mountain Park for a night filled with s’mores, science, and some special guests – the fascinating creatures that come alive after dark! A park naturalist will be your guide, helping you discover the secrets of Roanoke’s nighttime wildlife.
2. National Kids to Parks Day: May 18
Mark your calendars! We’re throwing a HUGE party at Elmwood Park to celebrate Kids to Parks Day! Spend the day exploring any of Roanoke’s 50+ parks, then head to Elmwood Park in the evening for a FREE family movie night under the stars.
3. Tiny Tot Tri: May 19
Calling all future Olympians (ages 2-5)! Get ready to run, bike, and splash your way to the finish line at the cutest (and maybe silliest) event Elmwood Park has ever seen!
4. Outdoor Exploration & Big Adventure Camps: Multiple weeks June through August
Calling all adventure enthusiasts! These epic camps are designed to keep your child engaged outdoors with activities like wilderness survival, nature crafts, and learning about the cool critters that live in our rivers. Plus, they’ll get to try out all sorts of fun stuff like hiking, paddling, archery, and more!
5. Horton Hoops: June 13-August 8
Calling all ballers ages 13-18! Horton Park is the place to be all summer long, with free pickup games every Thursday. We’ll even have music, speakers, food, and prizes to keep the good times rolling!
Now is the time to get outside, explore, have some fun, and make some memories that will last a lifetime! See you there!
