Deferred Maintenance Projects

As part of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan developed in 2019, a list of deferred maintenance priorities were identified.  In early 2022, the department received a sum of $2.3 million to address these priorities.  Below are projects slated to be addressed as part of this initiative with notes on each project’s progress.  This information will be updated periodically so visitors can refer back.  Keep in mind that the list below is specific to deferred maintenance priorities, and does not include the full scope of work done by the department.  You can find additional information on recent park improvements here

*Due to the nature of maintenance and construction projects, timelines change frequently and are dependent on many factors (supply chain delays, outside contractor availability, inflation, weather, etc.).  Please keep this in mind and be patient as we tackle these and many other projects.

Update (July 18, 2022): The City of Roanoke’s Department of Parks and Recreation is set to invest an additional $2 million in the park system with an emphasis on deferred maintenance items.  The items to be addressed with the additional funding can be found here, and have been added to the comprehensive list below.
