The Blue Ridge Parkway is undergoing repairs in our region, and multiple closures are in place until spring 2022. Crews will be repairing the roadways as well as completing work on the Roanoke River Bridge. While our parks and greenways won’t be affected by this closure, we want to caution those using the blueways. As the Roanoke River Bridge at Mile Marker 114.7 is repaired, those using the river should be aware of the potential for falling debris if paddling under the parkway bridge.
Signage will be posted at the Bennington put-in in the City as well as other river put-ins in other localities to warn those using the blueways. The water is, of course, open, but users are cautioned when recreating near this bridge while repairs are taking place.
