You may already be familiar with the incredible Outdoor Recreation programs we offer during the warmer months, like Sunset Kayaking at Carvins Cove, Bouldering, and Youth Mountain Bike races. But, did you know that we offer a range programs in the winter months perfect for anyone looking to extend their time outdoors? Check it out, and hopefully we’ll see you outside!
Enjoy a Winter Wander
Winter is one of the best times to hike to a waterfall, with beautiful ice formations along the creeks. If it’s cold enough, you may even see the entire waterfall frozen over. Come see for yourself at our upcoming Winter Waterfall Hikes. We’ll be heading to Bottom Creek Gorge on January 19 and Stiles Falls on February 8.
If you’re looking to upgrade your experience, you’ll love our Winter Wonderland Hike & Warm Spring Float! This adventure includes a refreshing 2.5 mile hike along the Ingalls Overlook Trail, followed by lunch and a soothing soak in the historic Warm Spring Pool! These programs tend to fill quickly, so don’t wait to sign up! Offered January 25 and February 15.
Sit Back & Shuttle to Snowshoe
Make the most of the winter weather by heading up to Snowshoe Mountain Resort! With 56 trails, 14 lifts, and more than 180″ of snow annually, this is the best ski resort in the region. We’ll handle all the travel logistics, leaving Roanoke at 6:00 AM and getting you home by 8:30 PM, so you can enjoy your time on the mountain. Offered January 23 and February 12.
Warm Up & Give Back
There’s few outdoor activities that can keep you toasty in the winter like some good old fashioned trail work! Join our volunteer work days at Carvins Cove each month to help maintain and build our local trail system! Offered January 21, February 18, and March 11.
Get Out by Going Underground
Did you know caves stay the same temperature all year round? This makes them a perfect winter activity to avoid freezing temps! Join us for a wild caving experience where you’ll crawl and climb deep underground, exploring cave formations and experiencing total darkness! Offered January 11 and February 23.
Technically not Outdoors, but…
While you may not be riding your bike as frequently this time of year, it’s a great opportunity to do a little maintenance. Join us at Roanoke Mountain Adventures and learn how to do basic repairs and routine checks, geared towards beginners. Offered January 16 and February 13.
Prepare for summer paddling with our Indoor SUP Skills course! Learn everything you need to know to get started in the exciting sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. This indoor pool setting will help you build confidence before heading onto open waters. Offered January 12 and February 2.
