If you’ve visited Mill Mountain Park in the past year or so, you may have noticed the construction going on in the Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden. We are happy to report that those improvements, thanks to the Mill Mountain Garden Club, are ready to be unveiled! The MMGC is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of the Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden on Thursday, April 22nd at noon. The ceremony is open to the public and will be held at the new Wildflower Garden entrance adjacent to the Mill Mountain Discovery Center.
“The club developed a garden plan emphasizing the importance and beauty of native plants while enhancing the visitor experience with areas for quiet reflection,” a representative of the club wrote. MMGC raised $200,000 to revitalize the 2.5-acre garden that has called Mill Mountain home for the past 50 years. Some of the improvements patrons will notice are a restored cascading tiered pond; rerouted and ADA-compliant walkways; several new stone benches; a charming fairy garden; and a star stump jump. Sprinkled throughout are benches to enjoy the breathtaking vistas along with hundreds of native plants, shrubs, and trees.
While this lovely oasis has been nestled in Mill Mountain Park for several decades, these improvements have made the garden more accessible and environmentally sustainable with the hope that residents and visitors alike will enjoy this urban oasis.
