March is Women’s History Month! To mark the occasion, we’re celebrating the
awesome women of Roanoke Parks and Recreation who work tirelessly to maintain our public lands and provide thousands (yes, thousands!) of recreational activities and opportunities each year in the City.
During the week of March 9-13, we’ll be highlighting our female colleagues on our social media platforms so you can get to know these awesome ladies and their great work.
But we aren’t stopping the celebration there! We’d love to highlight the women in our community and share how you “PLAY” in the Roanoke Valley, so we’re running a photo contest from March 9th – 31st. Here’s how it works:
- Follow @playroanoke on Instagram
- Take a selfie of you at “PLAY” and post it to your Instagram page. Playing could mean visiting a park or greenway, or it could mean painting, writing, reading, kicking a soccer ball—however you PLAY! (make sure your account is public so we can see it)
- Tag a friend to do the same and use #ShePLAYsROA in your post
All participants will be entered into a drawing for a PLAY Roanoke Swag Bag including:
- Gift Card to a program/class
- Bicycle water bottle
- Insulated mug
- Hat
- Notebook
- Sunglasses
- Hand-crafted wood coasters
The winner will be chosen at random by a third-party participant on Friday, April 3rd

Contest Rules:
This Instagram photo contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram. PLAY Roanoke (Roanoke Parks and Recreation) is the contest host. The contest runs from March 9, 2020, at 10:00 am.m EST to March 31, 2020, at 11:59 pm EST. One photo will be chosen at random for a prize swag bag by a third party on April 2, 2020, at noon EST, and the winner will be contacted through Instagram. Photos must contain women in the Roanoke Valley recreating and include #ShePLAYsROA in the body of the Instagram post.
