The City of Roanoke wants citizens to know that the heavy rainfall over the past weekend has created additional damage to the upper low-water bridge on Wiley Drive. The bridge is closed to vehicular traffic until repairs are completed. As of now, the greenway and road remain closed to pedestrian and bicycle traffic as crews work to remove debris from the latest storm. Roanoke Parks and Recreation will notify the public when it is reopened.
Repairs to the bridge are expected to begin as early as October 4. While repairs are underway, both lanes of this Wiley Drive bridge will be closed to all users of the greenway. On the weekend of October 13-14, the bridge will remain closed to vehicles while pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to use the vehicle lane on the bridge. Weather permitting, the bridge is expected to be fully reopened by October 19.
