For the second year in a row, the U.S. Navy Band, Country Current, is performing a free concert in Elmwood Park. Roanoke is one of nine cities in four states to host a performance during the band’s 2018 tour. The concert will be held on Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with food and beverages sold on-site.
“For many years, Navy bands have been where it matters, when it matters, just like the rest of our Navy,” said Capt. Kenneth Collins, U.S. Navy Band commanding officer. “Today, we have Sailors performing around the world, improving relations with our allies abroad as well as telling the Navy story here at home.”
The Navy’s premiere country-bluegrass ensemble Country Current is renowned for its versatility and phenomenal musicianship, performing a blend of modern country music and cutting-edge bluegrass. This free concert is presented through a partnership between Roanoke Parks and Recreation and the U. S. Navy Band. For more information on the band, please visit their concert website.
