Hit the Reset button
Experience the ancient Chinese martial art of Tai Chi in the Mountain View gardens and in the beautiful Fishburn Mansion! Tai Chi is known for its health benefits; combining gentle physical exercise and movement with mindfulness. In this beginner-friendly 6-week course you’ll learn the fundamentals of breathing, posture, and the Yang 10 form.
Join a volunteer opportunity
The new year is a fantastic time to find ways to give back to your community. Roanoke Parks and Recreation offers multiple volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including a monthly trail maintenance day at Carvins Cove. This type of volunteer work is a great way to stay active (and keep warm) while also giving back to our local trail system! Another great opportunity is the volunteer Tree Steward Training, beginning late-January. Tree Stewards help care for young trees, and play a vital role in keeping the city’s urban tree canopy healthy and protected.
Stay Active
Looking for a little friendly competition? Our annual Dodgeball Tournament is fast-paced, fun, and requires a combination of physical skill, strategy, and teamwork. This tournament is a great way to stay active while spending time with friends, coworkers, family members, or…well, anyone! Irrational team names and attire are optional, but highly recommended!
Try a new fitness challenge
Our annual Roanoke 100 Miler challenge is simple – complete 100 miles in 100 days. You can tackle this challenge by biking, running, walking, or doing 30 minutes of human powered activity (such as yoga, basketball, canoeing etc.). How you choose to complete the 100 miles is up to you! Join the hundreds of Roanokers who take up this challenge each year – starts January 8!
Clear your clutter
If your wellness goals include a little spring cleaning, you’ll want to start preparing for our Junk in the Trunk Rummage Sale! This event is a great motivator to clean out your closets and let your trash become someone else’s treasure! Get your price tags ready, this sale is coming March 23!
