Michael Clark, Director of Roanoke Parks & Recreation, recently passed the Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE) exam through the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). The CPRE is a mastery-level credential and the highest certification a park and recreation professional can reach. The exam focuses on practical knowledge and current real-world skills necessary in today’s changing park and recreation environment. Clark is one of just sixteen individuals in Virginia to hold this distinguished certification.
Notably, Clark was also recently elected to serve on the Virginia Recreation and Park Society Board of Directors, where he will be one of eight professional board members and one lay board member. Clark begins a two-year term in January 2023.
Michael Clark has been with Roanoke Parks and Recreation for over fourteen years, serving as the Director since 2016. Clark is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned a degree in Communications and English as well as Virginia Commonwealth University, where he earned a master’s degree in Recreation, Park and Sport Leadership.
